  Welcome tea
Isn't this little brownie the cutest you ever seen? Hehehe... Frankly speaking, I simply can't bear to eat it!

I had an Honours year Welcome Tea in the morning. Basically, the agenda of the programme is to give the prospectus an inside's perspective to the Honours year syllabus and the expectations. I was late. Wait. I was real late. I woke up at 9.30am and had to take a cab to school. Nevertheless, it was a good thing that I came. The professors gave a brief overview of the level 4000 modules and even the level 5000 ones. Swell. As if I will be taking level 5000 modules! I cant imagine myself in a room surrounded by Master's students, discussing about a topic, so complex that it might as well be in Greek, to me. Sooo Bloody Outrageous.
There are only 60 students in this PS Honours year cohort. Competition will be seriously tough. This can be truly reflected from the behaviour of the students during the tea session. Many students were engaging eagerly with the professors whereas others were huddled together in groups discussing seriously. I saw many familiar faces in the midst of the commotion. In fact, some faces are too darn familiar, as they are the breed of students who just love to hog tutorial sessions. Moreover, sometimes they tend to forget that tutorial sessions are supposed to be group discussions not tete-a-tete sessions with the professor. Definitely not looking forward to having classes with such people.

The PS department organizes workshops for us during the holidays. These workshops are aimed to equip us with the right skills to tackle Honours year modules and academic writing. I believed that such programmes are certainly extremely useful especially for people like me who are still facing difficulties in writing a brilliant paper. I am getting awfully cynical about this coming semester. It seems that tons of work are impatienly wating for us. Trust me, when the professors claim that the readings will be 200-300 pages, I think they truly meant it. Most of my friends are going to opt for the same combination of modules; which is a relief. At the very least, I would have buddies as the much-needed companions through this torturous journey.

Although the theory of "survival of the fittest in the jungle" holds true, especially for NUS students, it is wonderful to have long-lasting buddies who are always by your side, be it on a bad or a good day. Indeed, I am most grateful that I have found many close friends in NUS, especially those from the department. We have gone through many bettersweet situations and overcome numerous barriers together. Hopefully, 4th year will further strengthen our friendship. For my other dearies who are commencing soon, good luck to you guys and stay in touch!
