  Human Behaviour
I had the EIE briefing yesterday night. In actual fact, we came with a heavy heart. The meeting place was waaay too far for us i.e location: BRADDEL. Moreover, I will not be able to catch the Miss Universe on telly. However, such negative feelings became a passe when we realized how interesting the event is going to turn out to be :)

Human Behaviour. I was writing this entry when the Bjork's song suddenly came to my mind. If you listen to the lyrics very carefully, you will certainly realise how true they are. The song provide an encyclopaedic portrayal of the multiferous characters of people. Of course, it can just be an axiomatic but yet again, there should be some elements of truth, somewhere.

Relationships among people are both virtues and vices. Virtues; since people are able to interact, develop feelings and share knowledge with each other. Vice; due to the work of the cunning devils, people tend to turn to evil deeds in order to obtain their desires and thus, relationships may get fractured along the way.

Relationships are dynamic in nature. In my reflection, I have to acknowledge the fact that my circle of friends differs constantly, from one period to another. People change. In some instances, I would find myself pretty close to a person and the next minute, I realized that we are not on a speaking term any longer. A more awful experience is that in some cases, I will tend to develop hatred to a particular individual although the feeling of deep likeness was clearly inscribed, in the past.

Let us list some reasons why such dynamism is very apparent in relationships among people. Point one: the environment.
For obvious reasons, my close friends in University are not the same close friends that I had when I was in primary school.

Point two: Maturity level.
As we mature, we tend to agglomerate with those who are on the same wave length as us. This may differ from one stage of life to another.

Point three: "Busy"
One word to describe cosmopolitan life: hectic. People's minds are tightly wrapped in the cellophane of being busy and fully occupied with tasks. This will affect the people around them.

Point four: It is the fault of the Pandora's Box
Jealousy. Backstab. Hypocrite. All these ruptured relationships. The task of mending can be very slow or in some worst case scenarios, the wounds are permanent.

Yes. Relationships are indeed very dynamic. I am sick of losing people, here and there. Let me try the horrondous task of trying to shut my own's Pandora's box. Maybe you should try it too. After all, this is also a part of what Bjork called, Human Behaviour.

  The What Ifs of life
I was just wondering. What if I had failed my exams? What if my parents decided not to move house to Jurong when I was in Primary 3? What if I was not admitted to NUS? What if I did not meet my Darling Dear? What if I did not make Political Science as my major? Would I still be doing honours?

The scariest "What If" that I can ever think of is, "What if I do not get my dream job or any half-way decent job when I graduated?" That would certainly be a big blow to my experience of an approximately two decades of feeding the brain with education and tons of information. I do not want to bring great damages to my already fragile brain due to taking an extra year in University, only to be duly unemployed after graduation.

The Singapore Government implied that there are more jobs available now, due to the healthy economy. But heck, why is it that many graduates are still finding difficulties in getting jobs? Not the graduates' fault. MNCs are looking for employees who are experienced and thus, being fresh grads means that they are at a huge disadvantaged. Of course, they would make exceptions for some outstanding graduates who perfectly meet their requirements. The question is, how many would they employed? Certainly, you can count all of them using your ten fingers.

Government companies such as the various ministries welcome fresh graduates with open arms. Nevertheless, the process of scrutinizing potentials is so rigid that many are left astray in the streets. Academic qualifications are being emphasised so much so that other qualities are being put aside. Book smart is an admirable quality but isn't street smart as important? I am pretty sure that employers would not want to have workers who are very brilliant but unable to relate to the clients. So please, listen here. Please do not refuse us, the not-powerfully- academically-inclined people from granting interviews just because we graduated with lower class Honours or a B.A. In fact, we can be better than those with first class Honours or even Upper Class!

Want to know why? It is due to the fact that We know how to balance life and books. Too much studying makes a person lose his touch with reality. Basically, people should not have too much of anything. It makes you rather one-sided. A balance of everything is an essential to lead a healthy, beautiful life. My zodiac sign, Libra tells me so and I, being an avid horoscopist keenly believed in it.

  Time is running out
Darwin's theory of the survival of the fittest holds true , especially for a competitive society like ours. Yes, I am feeling the strains of living in such a fast paced life. It is no wonder that I am always rushing off from one place to another. People appear to be hurrying, practically most of the time. I mean, do you notice the attitudes of Singaporeans during the rush hour periods? They are obviously RUSHing around, as if their lives will be doomed for eternity, if they are not able to catch the bus or the train where the waiting time is only about ten minutes flat.

Moreover, time seems to pass by so quickly that most of us do not even realize it. I feel as if it was yesterday that I was a freshmen in NUS whereby undergrad life seemed so exciting, yet so different. And lo behold, I will be a 4th year student in the next semester. The most senior on campus (minus the Masters students, of course). Sheesh... I feel that life on earth is actually in a "Forward" mode, not exactly in a "Play" mode. Maybe God is sick of watching over us and decided to fast track life. Or maybe God is so pissed off with mankind and their horrible deeds that He wanted Doomsday asap.

I am not complaining. I am only commenting. And yes, I am guilty of being a slave to time. I am not spared from this massive ordeal either. Speaking of which, I need to sign off soon. I have to rush off for tutoring my Sec 3 student before meeting Darling Dear for a quick dinner. And yes, I need to pick up a lovely gift for my dad's birthday and maybe survey around for an ultra cheap, reliable and sleek Digi Cam, for myself. I need to be home by 1030pm tonight because "Project Runaway" is on for tonight and I would not want to miss it. Basically, I would be rushing around like a mad woman in order to finish all my tasks on time. Such a life is simply typical for the beings of the 21st century.

  Sat night

-Courtesy of Zaki-

Saturday night was my moments of "catching up with friends and family". I had an Ilsa Bbq at Downtown East. It was lovely to meet the girls, after so many months. I never realized how much I miss having dance practices and hanging out sessions with the Ilsa-ians. We had our fun. Real fun. He he... It was such a pity that I had to go off earlier but at least I did managed to have some catching-up session with them.

The next stop was my dearest baby doll cousin's birthday at Costa Sand. Indah was having her 18th birthday party at the chalet. It was quite a huge event with games, a wide variety of delicious food and good music. She looked cute in a pink dress and OMG, she had chopped off her hair! Her new spunky hairdo made her looked like a cutesy Jap doll. he he... I miss hanging out with my lovely cousins, especially Miss Lenny M2M. It had been ages since the last time we laid eyes on each other. Miss Lenny M2M is still the same old girl that I know. Still pretending to be cute. Still sweet. Still having those big eyes. And still as loud as ever. Haha.. Love you babe!

I was stuffing myself throughout the whole night. All those hours in gym trying to burn those irritating calories seem useless as I had added tons of calories back, in a mere span of one night. Need to have another trip to gym, yet again.

  Dessert treat
The wonderful dessert treat at Cineleisure. Honestly, it was such a sinful treat! Heavenly chocolate was served in such a tasteful way that I simply had to take pictures of it.
I devoured a Chocolate sponge cake dipped in milk chocolate sauce, accompanied by a chocolate ice-cream filled with marshmallows and nuts. Meanwhile, Darling Dear had a triple chewy chocolate brownies with nuts and chocolate ice-cream, topped off with fresh strawberries. Simply Sinful...
A delicious creation of combining brownies, ice-cream, chocolate bar, strawberries and whipped cream in one gigantic plate.
And the best thing was that, the desserts weren't that expensive after all. The price range is rather equivalent to that of Swensen's. Beats Swensen's, any time.

  The Alfa Romeo Experience
Darling and I called it the "Alfa Romeo Experience". On this fateful Wednesday night, Darling decided to rent the Alfa Romeo out for a spin. We headed out to town for the night. Since we already had dinner at the all-famous Banquet in Jurong Point, we decided to have dessert at the quaint little eatery at Cineleisure level 2. The ride to town was wonderful. Fine, it was just a ride. But hey, a ride in an Alfa Romeo was not just any ride, mind you. The engine was soo smooth that it seems as if the car was gliding on the road. Obviously, Darling Dear had a splendid moment testing out the car. He was appalled that I did not even have any urge to drive the Alfa at all. "How can you not want to drive?!" Sorry dear. Although I do have a license, I would rather dazed out in the passanger seat than steering the wheel and swearing at all those bloody taxis and lorries who simply do not know the rules of the road.

Anyway, he had a great time driving the Alfa. Sheesh. Boys and their toys. Here is an interesting theory that both of us had thought of. The flashier is your car, the higher is your status on road. Haha.. Singaporeans are such materialistic beings! The Alfa did get many attention on the road. I mean, talk about other vehicles giving the Alfa the right of way all the time and yes, people did stare with such envious looks that we can practically see the Green Eyed Monster glaring spitefully back at us. Hey! Relax people! We do not even own the Alfa! It was RENTED. However, it was nice to pretend to be rich yuppies. We took pictures with the Alfa Baby-for memories sake. Who knows? It might be ours, some day. Yup. Ten years from now. Hahz....

  World Cup has ended!
Let us bid farewell to late night soccer binges and coffee shop talks of the World Cup. This entry came a tad too late since the most celebrated event of the year had come to a closure, two days ago. However, every single earthling should agree with me that the last match in Berlin, was the most exciting and controversial one, of all. Italy won. (rolls eyes) But they played dirty. No genuine glory for them. Fine.Fine. Football fanatics or Azzuris supporters may violently disagree with my statement, since I am such an ardent supporter of France.

The politically correct way of commenting Italy is that; yes, they are such a good team and they deserved to bring home the solid gold trophy. Of course they did not play dirty. They were just being tactical. They knew the right method to irk Zidane psychologically, so much so that he had to be sent off due to an absurd red card. Obviously, without the French's most honourable player, they were able to perfectly lead the game, to their own advantage. Tactics my man, just plain tactics.

Nevertheless, the phrase "all is fair in love and war" strangely holds true even for the game of soccer. Legendary Zidane won the golden ball award although he failed to bring France to championship. Thank God.

I watched the final match of the World Cup with my fellow cousins who were staying over at my house. It was rather wonderful to have them over. They certainly spiced up the experience. We snacked out and goofed around, no, they goofed around. Haha.. Lovely time.

  Dinner treat
Look at that! One of my most favourite dinner treat is......

Ikan bakar freshly cooked in hot sambal and spicy sambal Kangkong with fragrant rice at where else, but Newton!! This is the most delicious meal I have had for the week. The boiled cockles dip in chili is another popular add-on to our dinner treat. Such a wonderful and mouth watering dinner should be blissfully served with chilled sugercane juice. This is my idea of an ecstasy of salvation.

Darling and I went to the newly renovated Newton Food Centre last Saturday night. The place looked beautiful. The lush greenery pleasantly decorated the spa-like food centre. The whole place was brightly lit with artistic lamps and the dining areas for once, were comfortable. Totally splendid! And it does help that the food is still as tasteful as ever.
However, the place was really crowded. It was seriously hard to find seats and we were very lucky to obtain seats quickly. Such a lovely treat. Looking forward to many more 'Newton banquets'........

  Welcome tea
Isn't this little brownie the cutest you ever seen? Hehehe... Frankly speaking, I simply can't bear to eat it!

I had an Honours year Welcome Tea in the morning. Basically, the agenda of the programme is to give the prospectus an inside's perspective to the Honours year syllabus and the expectations. I was late. Wait. I was real late. I woke up at 9.30am and had to take a cab to school. Nevertheless, it was a good thing that I came. The professors gave a brief overview of the level 4000 modules and even the level 5000 ones. Swell. As if I will be taking level 5000 modules! I cant imagine myself in a room surrounded by Master's students, discussing about a topic, so complex that it might as well be in Greek, to me. Sooo Bloody Outrageous.
There are only 60 students in this PS Honours year cohort. Competition will be seriously tough. This can be truly reflected from the behaviour of the students during the tea session. Many students were engaging eagerly with the professors whereas others were huddled together in groups discussing seriously. I saw many familiar faces in the midst of the commotion. In fact, some faces are too darn familiar, as they are the breed of students who just love to hog tutorial sessions. Moreover, sometimes they tend to forget that tutorial sessions are supposed to be group discussions not tete-a-tete sessions with the professor. Definitely not looking forward to having classes with such people.

The PS department organizes workshops for us during the holidays. These workshops are aimed to equip us with the right skills to tackle Honours year modules and academic writing. I believed that such programmes are certainly extremely useful especially for people like me who are still facing difficulties in writing a brilliant paper. I am getting awfully cynical about this coming semester. It seems that tons of work are impatienly wating for us. Trust me, when the professors claim that the readings will be 200-300 pages, I think they truly meant it. Most of my friends are going to opt for the same combination of modules; which is a relief. At the very least, I would have buddies as the much-needed companions through this torturous journey.

Although the theory of "survival of the fittest in the jungle" holds true, especially for NUS students, it is wonderful to have long-lasting buddies who are always by your side, be it on a bad or a good day. Indeed, I am most grateful that I have found many close friends in NUS, especially those from the department. We have gone through many bettersweet situations and overcome numerous barriers together. Hopefully, 4th year will further strengthen our friendship. For my other dearies who are commencing soon, good luck to you guys and stay in touch!

  Some thoughts
-Pondering about the future-

I did my Module Preference Exercise. I will be doing four level 4000 Political Science modules next semester and one of them is theory-based. Sheesh.. Its going to be one looong semester. I am having mixed feelings about going to Honours year. Yes, it is a dream come true when I checked my personal details and found out that they have changed my degree status from,"Bachelor of Arts" to "Bachelor in Social Sciences with Honours". Nevertheless, the thought of the amount of workload plus the high standards and expectations makes me feel rather ill :(

  WorldCup Rantings

The English Team is out of the 2006 WorldCup!Simply Unbelievable! Utterly dissapointing..
They are supposedly to be a strong team with famous good players but luck is not by their side. When I relished the crucial moment of the penalty kicks; it is obvious that England is just plain unlucky- especially when Gerrard missed that ultimate important penalty shoot. Oh well, better luck next time people! There goes the genuine chance of catching those dreamy English players in action. And yes, I have to agree with the rest of the female population; Beckham is one sexy football player! Fine. That came real late. Before, I was actually irritated by girls who swooned Beckham shamelessly. And I actually thought he was a lousy player who have to rely on his poster-boy look to gain popularity. I admit, I was wrong. Well, you cannot blame me for being a football-airhead; I do not watch the English Premier League. Simply not interested and cannot be bothered. If you think that I am such a bimbo; at least, I know the existence of such League and thus, I am not as ignorant as some girls are! Bend-it-like Beckham is a good player, after all and Victoria is soooo lucky to have such an adorable English soccer captain for a husband. -winks-
This WorldCup is heating up! Semis are next week and for once, Brazil is out. That means, any team- Germany, France, Italy and Portugal, is able to walk away with that honourable FIFA WorldCup trophy. How exciting!
Besides catching world-class players out-wit, out-last and out-play each other, girls can also have the most delightful opportunity of getting glimpses of those good-looking hunks. I seriously think that soccer players make the best husbands- most of them are gorgeous, they have good bods, they are rich and popular, their 'work' only involved playing soccer with other lads and thus, the probability of the existence of other ladies is quite minimal and you have ample opportunities to travel with them on their soccer tournaments. How cool is that?! Nevertheless, this view holds for foreign soccer players only. Dont ask me why because you should know why.
