  A day of two films

Yesterday was an arty-farty film day. I watched two art films which are very different from one another. The first one was a local one which is mandatory to watch as we need to do a review on it for our popular culture class. We borrowed the dvd from the library and squeezed ourselves into one of the glass cells to view it from Dhilla's laptop. Gosh, only one word to describe it-utter nonsensical. 'Eating air' lives up to its name because it is just plain horrible. It is like any typical Singaporean art film. Only that it is much more worse. The Singapore that it portrays is different from the multi-racial Singapore that the government always stress on. No wonder foreigners always have this perception that Singapore is a third China. The film is humorous but it has the cliche plot about gangsterism and teenage love among Singapore youth. I do not think there are much elements of art in the film. The director tries hard but well, he should try harder next time. Haha....
Urgh... Im sorry. I just hate the film. And to think I have to write a review on it. Bleargh........

After the horrifying experience of watching a pathetic local film, Darling and I decided to watch a movie at Vivo. Since its my turn to pay for the tixs, I had the valuable opportunity to choose what movie to watch. Being the foreign movie addict, I opted for a french movie titled 'Paris, Je'Taime' (Paris, I love you). OMG! It was worth the ten bucks! It was one of the best French film Ive ever watch! The film is actually a collection of short stories spunning tales of love among different people all in the lovely city of Paris. It is like the french version of 'Love Actually'-only nicer. The tales of love are unique-love between a pretty lady and her blind boyfriend, love between an old couple whose husband decided not to divorce his wife after finding out that his wife was terminally ill, love between a couple who finally met up when the guy was stabbed and the girl treated him and even love between a gay couple.

My favourite story is about an inter-racial love between a french guy and a muslim girl. It is a really sweet story since the french guy actually followed her to the mosque and waited outside the mosque for hours just to see her again. And it does help that the french guy is really cute with curly blonde hair. What attracts me the most about this story is that the guy does not mind that the girl is a muslim who wears the hijab. His friends even mocked him by saying that Osama would be furious at him if he dated the muslim girl. Certainy, the French Muslims are being starkly discriminated in the society. Nonetheless, the French guy still continues to court the Muslim girl.

In all, I really love this French film. Each story has a clever twist to the ending which makes it more appealing and creative. Besides that, there are many footages of the city of light. Very beautiful. So moral of story? 'Love transcends all boundaries.' How cheesy... but how true!
